Weekend trip by luxury coach with cellar visits, tastings and Champagne dinner Theme of the weekend “Vignerons” – independent wine growers
Global programme
On Saturday morning we pick up our guests and drive to the Champagne region for a weekend themed around Vignerons, small wine growers. Due to legislation around driving and resting times for our bus driver we will make a stop in the north of France. After that, we will head towards Épernay, the self-proclaimed Capital of Champagne.
There the Fun – yes, with capital F – will start. In Venteuil, a small village north west of Épernay, we will visit the first house of this Vignerons weekend for a cellar tour, followed by a special tasting. This wine maker uses for his Champagnes not only the wellknown Big Three (Pinot Noir, Meunier and Chardonnay) but also three ‘forgotten varieties’.
Later in the afternoon we will go to the village of Villers-sous-Châtillon, where we will be welcomed in another family business – already in the fifth generation. They will present us with a delicious four course dinner which will obviously be accompanied by their own Champagne wines. After dinner, you will have time to do some shopping and when everyone is done, we will go to our hotel in Reims, where you can spend the remainder of the night as you like.
On Sunday morning after breakfast, we will check out first and load our luggage after which we will visit the first Champagne house of the day in the nearby village of Rilly-la-Montagne. This visit includes a very interesting cellar tour, and a tasting of their wines. Then it’s lunchtime and everyone is free to spend that in the cosy little village.
In the afternoon the bus will drive us to Chigny-les-Roses for the last visit of the weekend. We will be taken into the cellars of this family house and most certainly taste some more excellent wines, after which it’s time again – sadly – to start our journey back home.
Near Wanlin in België we will make a longer stop for dinner and after that we will start the last stretch to Maastricht, where we expect to arrive around 21:30.
